Birth of The Endless Summer – Presented By Noosa International Surfilm Festival
A new, full-length feature documentary detailing the genesis of what would become the most influential surf movie of all time.
The award-winning doc feature captures the magic of adventure traveller and Californian surf pioneer Dick Metz as he vagabonds the globe from 1958-1961.
Metz’s journey would not only inspire Bruce Brown to create one of the most watched and beloved films of all time, but also set events in motion that would forever change surfing and pop culture.
Metz’s train-jumping, steamship-hopping tour, in the vein of On the Road and The Motorcycle Diaries, led to Metz’s discovery of “the perfect wave” at Cape St. Francis, South Africa.
Dick Metz’s travels not only inspired his friend, Bruce Brown, but also paved the way for the The Endless Summer to become a reality. Birth of The Endless Summer follows the 90-year-old Metz back to South Africa to retrace the steps of his original journey.
Birth of the Endless Summer reveals the hidden story behind filmmaker Bruce Brown’s The Endless Summer, an iconic film that captured the hearts and imaginations of surfers and non-surfers alike.
